Final Thoughts:

Wilderness Trail's wheated bourbon is hands down my favorite whiskey from their current offerings, especially when you get the chance to try it at cask strength. There is a confectionary quality to this single barrel that begins on the nose with notes of funnel cake, and follows through the palate with a flavor similar to Dunkin Donuts powdered sugar jelly donuts. The rich sweetness of this bourbon is balanced against the burnt marshmallow flavors coming through, which creates a product that is neither too sweet nor too spicy. $70 is a lot to ask for a bourbon that isn't even 5 years, but this single barrel brings a depth of flavor that is missing on some much older whiskies that I have tried. I would certainly recommend checking out Wilderness Trail's lineup, and kudos to Bourbon Enthusiast for a great pick!
