Final Thoughts:
Thirteenth Colony Southern Rye Whiskey hits you up front on the nose with tons of green apple and maple syrup. At first, it is a bit overwhelming, however, it mellows out as it sits in the glass for a while. The palate follows through with similar notes as the nose, in addition to a youthful grain note. Overall, the French oak spirals used to finish this whiskey help round out the palate with some additional wood and vanilla influences. Unfortunately, the seemingly young base spirit is still apparent by the grain and green oak flavors on the palate. At $35 MSRP, this product is fairly priced, I just wish the whiskey could age a bit longer in the barrel rather than using oak spirals.
