Final Thoughts:

Fort Hamilton, based in upstate New York, utilizes heavy char half-sized barrels to bring more interaction between the wood and the whiskey during maturation. However, rather than using this technique to try to age the whiskey as fast as possible, they still allow the rye to sit in the barrel for nearly four years. This, along with steam heated warehouses during the cold New York winters bring very dark and rich raisin, molasses, and blackberry notes from the nose through the finish. There are also hints of mint and some green tea, which adds a nice balance to the dark sweet notes. As a big rye fan, this is certainly one to check out along with the other great products coming out of Fort Hamilton.
