Final Thoughts:

The latest release in Bardstown Bourbon Company’s core lineup is the Fusion Series #5, which is a blend that contains primarily their own 3 to 4 year-old distillate. The nose begins with a wide array of aromas from clove and fennel to honeysuckle and candied orange. There is a hint of youth on the nose, but nothing overwhelming. The palate follows through with notes consistent with the nose, however, there is a distinct saltiness or brine flavor on the sides of your tongue. To round out the whiskey, the finish brings a nice creaminess reminiscent of buttercream frosting and nougat that works well with the baking spice notes. Overall, this release is a nice addition to Bardstown’s core lineup. Some of the youth and grain forward notes will round out over time as their whiskey ages to 5 and 6 years-old, however, it is exciting to see that even some of their younger product is well-balanced and flavor forward!
