Final Thoughts:
Magnolia wheated bourbon is the inaugural release from S.N. Pike’s Magnolia in Ohio. Their flagship product is a 3-year straight bourbon sourced from MGP made of 51% corn, 45% wheat, and 4% malted barley. On the nose, there is a bit of youth coming through, along with bright fruit aromas of cherry, lemon, and some strawberry. The palate adds some sweeter notes of butterscotch and vanilla pudding, along with a raw peanut flavor that I attribute to the youth and lack of oak. The finish rounds out the pour with some floral honey and stewed plum notes. Overall, Magnolia delivers some nice fruit-forward flavors that would appeal to any bourbon drinker. At only 3 years old, I feel that the whiskey needs some more age time in order to develop those dark brown sugar and baking spice notes commonly found in wheated bourbons.
