Nose:

Spiced apple cake, vanilla custard, lemon peel, and light banana.

Palate:

Peaches and cream, buttercream frosting, green apple, and rye spice.

Finish:

Medium-long finish with strawberry cake, clove, and light mint.

Final Thoughts:

The latest annual release in the Wild Turkey Masters Keep series, titled Unforgotten, is a blend of 13 year bourbon and 8-9 year rye whiskies. This limited release is an homage to the Wild Turkey Forgiven bourbon/rye blend that was released a few years ago with very high praise. While I may never have tried Forgiven, I can say that Unforgotten is certainly a special whiskey. The nose opens with a punch of spice apple cake and vanilla custard that carries onto the palate along with the unmistakable sweet flavor of peaches and cream. The whiskey then lingers on the back of the palate with clove, light mint, and a sweet kick of strawberry. Overall, this is an incredibly balanced whiskey given the blend of bourbon and rye that packs just enough heat at 105 proof to keep you going back for another taste. While the bottle and box will look beautiful on any shelf, it will be difficult to keep yourself away from a second glass!
