Final Thoughts:

Preservation Distillery’s Very Olde St. Nick line of products are all small batch, cask strength whiskies. This bottle is an 8 year old bourbon clocking in at 109.1 proof and sourced from an unknown Kentucky distillery. The nose begins with a distinct sweet nuttiness that is reminiscent of a fluffernutter sandwich (I hope your childhood included many of these!). This sweetness continues onto the palate in the form of orange creamsicles and lots of milk chocolate, along with a musty undertone. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just something that was definitely in the background on my palate. The whiskey rounds out with more citrus in the form of marmalade and a hit of clove spice on the finish. Overall, this whiskey has some really nice flavors and aromas that remind me of different foods I used to enjoy growing up, which always makes the tasting experience that much better! There is a mustiness on the palate that I didn’t love, but it wasn’t strong enough to deter me from wanting another pour. This is an interesting bourbon, and one I would recommend trying before you buy at this price point to make sure it agrees with your palate.
