Final Thoughts:

This Old Scout single barrel bourbon was picked by Lazy Day Liquors, and comes in at 5 years old and 112 proof. Right off the bat, there is a big hit of orange zest on the nose that sets the tone for the whiskey. Along with the orange, there is a nice dose of peanut butter and beignets (think sweet pastries). The palate continues with similar citrus notes, with the addition of burnt walnuts and nutmeg. The whiskey finishes just as it started with a nice glazed donut flavor. Overall this Old Scout pick leans more on the citrus side than I would generally gravitate towards, however, a bit of air time has mellowed that out. The beignet/donut notes open up and shine through now, which is much more in line with my palate, making this a bottle I will certainly revisit.
