Final Thoughts:
Rare Hare 1953 edition is named in honor of the famed Playboy magazine, which was founded in 1953. This limited edition offering is a 17-year age stated bourbon (origin unknown) finished in XXO cognac casks from the Champagne region of France. The end result is an 111 proof oak bomb that is not for the faint of heart. Upfront, there is punch of oak, leather, prunes, and interestingly enough, rainbow sherbet fruitiness. The dark tones carry over to the palate with the addition of roasted hazelnuts, stroopwafel, and burnt orange before finishing with a sweet cherry reduction and orange creamsicle. Overall, this is a deliciously intense spirit designed for anyone who loves oak-forward whiskey. The real question is whether or not you are willing to pay the steep price tag for a unique drinking experience.
