Nose:

Caramel apple, candied ginger, mixed berry, poached pears, cinnamon, toffee, and raspberry streusel bar.

Palate: 

Cinnamon baked apples, orange zest, spearmint, ginger, butterscotch, and brown sugar.

Finish:

Long with notes of black licorice, nutmeg, pie crust, light mint, and leather.

Final Thoughts:

After winning more awards that you can imagine in 2020 with the initial US release of Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye Whiskey, Alberta Distillers has introduced the all new 2021 version. This release comes in at 127.4 proof of 100% Canadian rye whiskey. The nose opens with an explosion of rich and sweet fruit-forward aromas including baked apples, cinnamon, and candied ginger. The palate carries similar notes as the nose along with the distinct introduction of spearmint, orange zest, and brown sugar. To wrap it all up, the finish lingers for days with a spicy nutmeg, black licorice, and leather. Overall, Alberta Distillers knocked this one out of the park yet again. Last year’s release I described as one of the best rye whiskies I had ever tasted, and I believe that the 2021 is just as good. If you find a bottle in your area, you won’t regret picking it up!
