Final Thoughts:
As with all Barrell bourbons, they come in a wide variety of sourced distilleries, age statements, and proofs, but always non-chill filtered. Batch 32 is a blend of 5-year Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee bourbons at 115.34 proof. For the first pour, there is a grain-forward note on both the nose and palate, most likely due to the lower age statement compared to some of their other offerings. With a bit of air time, the grain fades to the background and the sweet buttercream frosting, cannoli, and cake move to the front to create a pleasant aroma. There is also a nice punch of tart blackberry jam on the palate and finish that plays well with the sweet notes. Overall, Batch 32 is a solid bourbon, and while I enjoy it, it is not my favorite batch from Barrell. Given this price point, I enjoy some of their other bourbon batches more, or even the Seagrass (that is if you can find it).
