Final Thoughts:
Lazy Day Liquors’ most recent single barrel pick, a 114 proof wheated bourbon from Wilderness Trail Distillery, was done in conjunction with the Charlotte Bourbon Society. To me, the nose is undeniably an almond croissant (you know the kind that is overly filled with that classic almond cream). It is rich, buttery, and sweet, just like you would find in a well-made pastry. The palate follows through with sweet pancake batter, allspice, and a bitterness reminiscent of lemon pith or peel. Lastly, the finish rounds out the tasting experience with a kick of baking spices to counteract the sweetness, along with some more almond and honey. Overall, I really enjoyed this single barrel pick. Some of the Wilderness Trail picks I’ve had in the past have been on the young side, but this one has developed a nice sweetness to it that truly makes me think of freshly baked pastries. To top it all off, $5 of each bottle goes to the American Heart Association, so you can feel good about buying that extra bottle!
