Nose:

Caramelized bananas, coconut, peaches in syrup, honeycrisp apple cider, cantaloupe, and lavender. 

Palate: 

Leather, overripe banana, cantaloupe, pear, and maple syrup. 

Finish:

Dark chocolate, sea salt, tobacco, cardamom, vanilla cream, butter, and smoke. 

Final Thoughts:

This special release of Westward Single Malt Whiskey was one of two barrels selected by a panel of women within the spirits industry in order to benefit Al Otoro Lado and the Black Mamas Matter Alliance charities. Barrel 2 starts strong with rich caramelized bananas and sweet cantaloupe on the nose, which carries directly onto the palate. Leather, dark chocolate, sea salt, and a hit of tobacco make an appearance on the finish, which is drastically different than many other American Single Malts that I’ve tried. This single barrel selection is truly delicious, and to make it all better, all proceeds benefit some great causes!
