Final Thoughts:

GlenDronach Port Wood expands upon their standard offering by taking whiskey already aged in Sherry barrels, and aging it for an additional three years in Port pipes. The double maturation in two different types of wine barrels creates an immensely dark and complex scotch absolutely bursting with flavor. The nose sets the tone with intense fig and plum jams, followed by the addition of a subtle smoke and a salty caramel note on the palate. On the finish, dried cranberries and malted milk balls linger for days, which leaves you wanting another sip to start the journey all over again. As someone who generally doesn’t reach for wine finished whiskies, I couldn’t believe how much flavor was packed into the glass with wonderful dark fruit from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed this scotch, and cannot wait to continue exploring the other GlenDronach expressions.
