Final Thoughts:
Found North Batch 004 is a 124.8 proof Canadian whisky made of 80% corn, 19% rye, and 1% barley, carrying an 18 year age statement (essentially the older brother of Batch 002). The blend includes a 21 year corn whisky, 25 year corn whisky aged in Hungarian oak, 18 year rye aged in Speyside scotch barrels, and an 18 year rye aged in American oak. Before even tasting what is in the bottle, the specs on this whiskey are about as good as they can get! Luckily, the quality of the spirit in the bottle lives up to the high expectations set by the label. The whiskey has strong notes of barrel char, caramel, ginger, raisins, and baking spices from start to finish, all with a very viscous mouth-feel given the high age statement and oak influences. A minimum of 18 years in the barrel has had a strong impact on the final product, which leads to a very spicy and bold whiskey, which is what I am looking for in the high-end category. Overall this is a complex and rich whisky that is sure to please anyone looking for a special bottle.
