Final Thoughts:

Chattanooga Whiskey’s newest offering to their core lineup of Tennessee high malts is aged for six months in Tawny Port barrels. The end result, if it wasn’t obvious enough from the tasting notes above, is a whiskey packed with dark stone fruit and jam notes from start to finish. The nose begins with a heavy dose of plum, fig, and brown sugar, which all carries onto the palate along with a distinct root beer note. The finish brought a nice kick of baking spices that wasn’t as evident on the palate, and a touch of effervescence (probably because I was still thinking about root beer). Overall, the port casks used for the additional aging have had a strong impact on the final product. The malty base spirit that Chattanooga is known for, combined with the dark stone fruit notes, brings wonderfully rich flavors that are best described as a Fig Newton in a glass. If you tend to gravitate towards wine finished whiskies, this is a good one to check out, especially at this price point.
