Final Thoughts:

Barrell Seagrass is a rye whiskey finished in Martinique rum, madeira, and apricot brandy barrels. As someone who is not always a big fan of finished whiskies, I was a bit nervous going into this one. Three different finishes seemed ambitious, and could easily become overwhelming on the palate. On the nose, there is a rich sweetness in the form of key lime pie and caramel apples. The palate takes these notes and amps them up with the addition of papaya and tropical smoothie with a cardamom pop to cut through. The finish stays true with a distinct starfruit and salt component added to the mix. Overall, I was surprised at how balanced this whiskey felt given the number of barrel finishes. The rye spices still came through, but were met with a huge dose of tropical fruits. Seagrass is a very fun and enjoyable pour that is unlike any other finished whisky that I’ve tried to date and one I would be happy to pick up.
