Final Thoughts:

The latest single barrel pick from Lazy Day Liquors is an 8 year old Kentucky straight bourbon from Barrell Craft Spirits, coming in at 118.28 proof. Barrell products are known for their depth of flavor, complexity, and overall richness, which can vary greatly from one barrel to the next. Even on the first pour of the bottle, the nose opens up with a rich cherry cordial and tannic oak. The palate introduces a heavy amount of spice, particularly cinnamon, that immediately reminds me a fresh pack of Big Red chewing gum. That cinnamon spice carries into a long finish with dark molasses and a hint of mint. Overall, this a well balanced bourbon from Barrell, which hits the flavors I am looking for during the fall and winter months. The whiskey is rich, spicy, sweet, and drinks just hot enough without overwhelming your palate. If you are a fan of whiskies that are heavy on the baking spices (like me!), then this single barrel will not disappoint.
