Final Thoughts:

Every fall, Barrell Craft Spirits releases the latest version of their New Year bourbon. The 2022 edition incorporates 5 to 14 year straight bourbons sourced from TN, IN, KY, OH, WY, NY, and TX, coming in at 115.34 proof. When I first poured this whiskey, I immediately picked up a distinct beignet and confectionary sugar note on the nose in addition to a bit of grain forward sweet corn. The palate comes through with a big hit of baking spices and molasses cookies, along with a tart red-fruit note. On the finish, there is a hint of smoke and oak mingled with tart pomegranate. Overall, this was a fun bottle to try that I have tried to find for a couple years now! On the nose, there was a bit more youth than I would have expected that came through as raw almond and sweet corn, however, the palate and finish brought forth more robust flavors of oak, allspice, and raspberry. If you haven’t checked out the Barrell New Year releases, the 2022 edition offers an interesting blend from distilleries across the country that has a wide array of flavors everyone can enjoy.
