Nose:

Cherry, nougat, caramel, nutmeg, raspberry, and meringue. 

Palate: 

Maraschino cherry, lime zest, candied lemon, blackberry jam, cornbread, and vanilla. 

Finish:

Medium finish with pink Starburst and green oak. 

Final Thoughts:

Wheel Horse bourbon batch #2 maintains consistency with batch #1 coming in at 101 proof and non-chill filtered. At only $30, this bourbon provides a surprising amount of information on the bottle including filtration, whiskey source, age, and even the mash bill. As someone who has tried a lot of craft whiskey, it is great to see more transparency within the industry! The nose and palate bring similar notes of cherry, citrus, vanilla, and a nice kick of bright fruit. The finish lingers from the 100+ proof, with a distinct pink Starburst flavor. Overall this an enjoyable whiskey with a lot of fruit, spice, and dessert-like qualities. There is a definite green oak note on the finish coming from the fact that the whiskey is only 2 years old, however, this does not detract from the overall experience. A bit more time in the barrel would round out some of the youthful notes, however, at this price point, Wheel Horse is worth a try!
