Final Thoughts:
The 2022 annual rye release from Pinhook Distillery was aged for 2 years at Castle and Key Distillery, and is named after the thoroughbred race horse, Rye Munny. The whiskey itself is 60% rye, 20% corn, and 20% malted barley, coming in at 99 proof. From start to finish, this rye carries a ton of fruit that I don’t find in most whiskies. Yes, there are bright pops of tart apple and oranges, but also fragrant notes of starfruit, kiwi, and coconut that bring something a bit different to the table. A sweet undertone of honey and mint make this an easy sipping rye either on its own or in a summer cocktail. For those who enjoy a more fruit forward rye rather than a spice bomb, you can’t go wrong with Pinhook’s latest release.
