Final Thoughts:
Keeper’s Heart is the inaugural release from O’Shaughnessy Distilling Company, which combines 4-year Irish grain whiskey, 4-year Irish pot still whiskey, and 4-year American rye whiskey. The final product is referred to as an Irish + American whiskey. The nose has an initial grain forward note that quickly turns into a plethora of sweet fruits, including honeydew melon, peach, and grapefruit. The palate similarly carries sweet fruit along with shortbread cookies and gingerbread to drive that grain forward flavor profile. The whiskey wraps up with a medium finish of sweet tropical fruits. Overall, this whiskey hovers on the boarder of youthful grain notes, and rich sweet notes. While there are certainly grain forward notes throughout that often evoke flavors of fresh baked cookies, there are also a ton of white flesh fruit notes that work really well together. For an under $30 whiskey experimenting with a previously unheard of blend of Irish and rye whiskies, there are certainly plenty of flavors going on to keep you interested from start to finish.
