Nose:

Mixed red fruits, honey, lavender, fig, walnut, and butterscotch pudding. 

Palate: 

Malt, sea salt, plum, candied strawberry, Fig Newton bars, and sautéed pears.

Finish:

Oak, red grapes, honeysuckles, and allspice.

Nose:

Smoke, graham cracker, dates, cinnamon sugar, cotton candy, pine, and bubble gum.

Palate: 

Smoked walnuts, candied ginger, cinnamon graham crackers, crème brûlée, and grilled peaches.

Finish:

Leather, toasted marshmallow, black pepper, and anise.

Final Thoughts:

Boulder Spirits based out of Boulder, Colorado (duh!), has a variety of bourbon and single malt whiskies. These two offer drastically different drinking experiences based on your personal whiskey preference. As someone who is not a big fan of sherry finished whiskey, this one was pleasantly surprising. Rather than overpowering the whiskey with wine notes, the sherry brought out many dark red fruit and fig flavors. On the other hand, the peated malt was layered with wonderful smoke and sweet graham cracker notes reminiscent of homemade S’mores. Unlike many peated single malts, the smoke was not overwhelming on the nose or palate, and did not bring any of the smoked ham notes that can be found in Islay scotch. While both of these are good whiskies on their own, my palate definitely leans towards the peated malt.
